Well that’s OK … because so did I! And what’s more, I did’t even realise Malaga was actually on the coast. For some reason or other I’d an image of visitors having a bit of a journey from the airport to the sea. I’d often heard, and read, that it was a great city in itself and well worth a visit – but I didn’t really believe it. Circumstances recently brought us there for a family celebration and we were all so impressed! The place is beautiful and a great location for a mini break.

Small Stuff
Getting There:
While there are bargains to be found on occasion, Malaga is not the cheapest place on the planet to get to – this is a year round airport hub for sun and golfing breaks on the Costa.
Access to the city centre is very easy – there are bus and train options as well as taxi. We got a bus from outside the terminal which brought us to the old town for €3 each.
Accommodation:
Don’t arrive on a Friday night and expect to just walk into a hotel – as I remarked above re flights, this is a year round venue and weekends are very popular.
A few mentions ….
We booked an Airbnb through iloftmalaga It cost about €165 per night – which wasn’t cheap – but had 2 double rooms as well as a sofa bed so could sleep 6. The location was fantastic- just off the shopping street and very close to the Cathedral.
I spent 3 nights in Hotel Venecia – also very close to the old town. The midweek rate varied -averaging about €100 per night. I didn’t have breakfast there but there are lots of cafes close by with breakfast deals from about €3 upwards.

Glad you liked Malaga, it’s one of my favourite cities. I would also recommend the Parador if you feel like pushing the boat out one night as its position is spectacular. I wrote about Malaga’s Semana Santa at https://travels-with-my-camera.blog/2018/03/01/holy-week-in-malaga/ and I keep meaning to do an article on the Museums but will do so – one of these days. Meantime, the beach is magnificent and the restaurants that lie along it serve some great seafood.
A pal of mine actually mentioned the Parador when I told her I was booking for Malaga…… maybe next time! We had a lot of great food – and reasonably priced. Never made it as far as the beach seafood restaurants … another reason to go back!
You had me at grand squares and balconies! Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Malaga from family and friends who had a chance to visit. You know, what’s not to like about great, sunny weather and beautiful coastal views you can enjoy while sipping away on cheap Spanish wines, yet nevar had a chance to explore that part of the Spain yet, maybe one day 😀 thanks for sharing and have a good day 😀 Aiva

Wow great I had passed through on my way to Morocco . Stayed in Torremolino so didn’t get to appreciate Malaga hmm another place to visit
