  1. A familiar landscape to me. We used to hie down to the rush bed at the bottom of the bog to get the bigges, fullest rushes to smoke. I don’t know if they tasted like cigarettes but I think it shows the power of role models, that myself and my 3 cousins on holiday in the grandparents, at ages from say 6 – 9, were aping the adults in wanting to smoke. It felt glamourous, and smoking the illicit rushes was the nearest we could come to actual tobacco.

    1. I was actually going through photos looking for rushing water – and spotted some rushes! We’ve spent so much time this past 18 months or so travelling through the countryside that I’d no bother putting a selection together.
