10 Glimpses of Northern Portugal: 10.Póvoa de Varzim

You’ll have to imagine blue skies for this one!   Povoa de Varzim is a resort lying about 30km north of Porto.  Its linked to the metro system which means its popular with day trippers as well as tourists.   The apartments stretching along the promenade don’t do much for the place but the beach is lovely and there’s a nice harbour and old town centre.   It combines well with Porto for a beach break if you have a few extra days and you can easily manage without a car.

Things are quiet midweek in June (of course,  the weather doesn’t help)…

    1. I was surprised at how much of it was to be seen -not just on the bigger public buildings in towns but old houses and shops in the back of nowhere. Also nice to see it on new buildings – a modern twist on an apartment block etc.

      1. Yes, those houses and shops. I remember that aspect more in Portugal than in Puebla — that experience of walking mid-block and seeing a regular house with magnificent tilework.
