This world map graces the exterior school wall in the tiny, remote hamlet of Indian Church in Belize. What particularly caught my eye was the fact that Belize wasn’t marked on the map so we can assume it predates the country’s independence in 1981.
This is the Peace Bridge in Derry, Northern Ireland. Opened in 2011, it was designed to connect the unionist and nationalist communities on opposite banks of the River Foyle. Two identical halves – each suspended from a single, sloping pylon – overlap at the centre to form a structural handshake across the river.
