A PHOTO CHALLENGE OF PLACES WE SIT…OR MIGHT SIT…OR ART ABOUT SITTING
We Dubliners love Jackie McKenna’s 1988 bronze statue ‘Meeting Place‘ (or locally known as ‘The Hags With The Bags‘!!). The two ladies have been shopping and are now resting and chatting. We can see that they visited Arnotts – a nearby department store. (One of the bags was actually stolen shortly after the sculpture’s unveiling – quite an achievement considering its weight! It was replaced and the bags are now securely attached to the pavement!!!)

To play along:
XingfuMama posts every Friday morning.
What a great sculpture ..not sure about the title 🙄
Ha – the Irish love to rechristen everything!
Those are very interesting. I love the expressions on their faces.
It looks like quite an intense conversation doesn’t it!
I like that – so lifelike you feel you could sit down and join the conversation!
It is very lifelike – that’s exactly how we’d sit when chatting!
I know this sculpture very well, Marie. There used to be a fantastic yarn shop where I often bought craft supplies right next to it. I am not to sure if it’s still there. Dublin has changed quite a lot since I lived there. Aiva 🙂 xxx
Was that the Woollen Mills? Its been gone a while – there’s a coffee shop or eatery of some sort there now…I’d say post Covid will bring even more change to the city centre Aiva … XXXMarie
Yes, thank you, it was the Woollen Mills; I just couldn’t think of the name. It was a lovely place with wonderful staff ☺️
Its such a shame to see these places disappearing… there’ll be nothing left except ‘high street’ chains…
What a lovely sculpture!
I love it – definitely one of my favourites around town….XXXMarie
Wow!
This is really amazing.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great sculpture. Love the expressions on their faces.
I’d say they’re complaining about their menfolk!!!😅
