I came across this seat earlier this summer in County Mayo in the west of Ireland. The woodland is located alongside an old railway line – now a very popular cycling route. I can’t find much about the piece but it serves as a poignant reminder of the past – this part of the country suffered hugely from migration and emigration and the suitcases are no doubt a nod towards the many men and women who took the train from the west to Dublin and beyond….

Thank you!!
Where do you keep finding them? This one is a real fun one.
The supply is getting low now – I’ll soon be using my own kitchen chairs!!!!!
This is such an unusual bench/sculpture ..I love it
Me too – and I love the idea of it along the railway track….
A very clever person
Yes – simple idea but still manages to hit a nerve…
I’ve seen this one on a blog before and thought it was very poignant.
Absolutely…. and families in the region are still affected by emigration so it doesn’t just evoke memories of the past…
Super fun.
🥰 😘
