Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Daoibh

Greetings from a glorious Dublin – sunshine and 16 degrees – now that’s a rarity for sure!!!

Even the Scots, beaten in the rugby yesterday, are enjoying themselves.

Molly Malone, 🎵who wheeled her wheelbarrow through streets broad and narrow🎶 won’t get far through the crowds today!!

And – in case you’ve forgotten how to drown the shamrock……..

  1. Nice pics Marie, happy St Patrick’s Day. I was living and working in Dublin on St Patrick’s Day 2008 & 2009. I’m afraid that, much as I enjoy a good pint, I found the day mostly messy and not all that enjoyable. Here in Jersey it’s a low-key day outside the ex-pat community. I did get a sprig of shamrock from the Jersey Irish Society though 🙂

    1. Town can get messy as the evening wears on – and the good weather will keep people out for longer! I love it during the day – while the parade is on and immediately afterwards when families are still about.
Speaking of shamrock – we just mentioned yesterday on our way back to the car that we only passed ONE person wearing a sprig the whole time we were in town!!!

  2. Paris had Irish weather today; I also attended a few parades in the rain during my time in Dublin. Your photos show the atmosphere building up for the big day!

    1. Ah we’ve had SO many miserable March 17ths!! – I associate the parade of yore with cold wind – shivering for yonks as it snailed past us… The pace has improved thankfully so its more of a pleasure to watch. We never hang around for late evening – but I love strolling around town just as the parade is finishing up and crowds are dispersing…

  3. I absolutely love Dublin, I am so overdue a return visit, especially as, incredibly, Michaela has never been! Belatedly a Happy St Patrick’s Day, Marie…I hope it was as good as you made it sound….

    1. Ah – not exotic enough for her, Phil!!! Any St. Patrick’s day celebrations in your part of the world or are you still en route???

      1. Ah but you see, Marie, Michaela’s natural habitat is the inside of a bar! We’re in Paraty now – a handful of green balloons and the occasional green hat on a bar wall is the only evidence.
