This week’s theme from Debbie for One Word Sunday is FAME
♫♬ Oh no, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue………

Electric Avenue in Brixton, London, shot to fame in 1983 when Eddie Grant released what was to be one of the biggest hits of the year. The song refers to the 1981 Brixton Riots. The street’s other claim to fame is that it was actually the first market street to be lit by electricity.

We have an Electric Avenue in Harrogate too. I wonder how many others there are?
Ah no!!!! I hope I have the right one!!!😅 😂 🤣
I’m sure you have – much more likely!
I wonder where your Electric Avenue got its name – it’s an odd one isn’t it…..
I haven’t been able to find out. It’s in a part of town that was – for Harrogate – reasonably industrialised.
No I couldn’t find anything either….. It’s a nice reminder though that things weren’t always as they are now – what an incredible advancement electricity must have been to these areas!!
Yes! Even my mother remembers gaslighting, as I do, as far as street lamps were concerned.
We were over in Mayo last summer – in the village of Cong. The Quiet Man was filmed there in the early 1950’s. Director John Ford used his influence to get electricity into the village – it was being rolled out nationwide but hadn’t reached that part of the country. The locals were delighted of course – until the filming ended and the crew departed. Some villagers had assumed it was a free service and were not impressed at having to pay for it from then on!!!😅 😂
Ha! There’s always a snag!
I like your take on the theme!
Thanks Sarah – I hadn’t a clue so waited until a few others posted!
what an original take on the prompt.
Ah thank you – glad you enjoyed….. XXXMarie
All I can think of is Georgie Fame but that’s not very original! Your take on it is GOOD.
