I’ve used this one before – but I love it!!!
Cesária Évora was a Morna singer from Cape Verde. This mural is in Mindelo on São Vicente Island. Portuguese artist Vhils drilled and scraped layers from the wall to form a low relief portrait.
FOR DEBBIE’S ONE WORD SUNDAY

That is so interesting how they etched it out.
That’s what I love about it – how it could be done on that scale…
That’s a beautiful mural, dear Marie xx
Thanks Aiva – There are painted murals of her all over the islands but I love this one in particular
I can see why you love it.
Imagine taking a drill to a wall and producing that!!!
I’m a sucker for murals, do I can see why you were so drawn to this one, Marie. It’s lovely.
I had to bide my time – it took a day or two to get a clear shot without cars and vans parked in front of it!
It was well worth trying again to get such a clear shot. Thank you!
We were lucky in that we were staying around for a few days and it was just across the road from our hotel…
A mural worth seeing again. 👍🏽
Yes! I might end up back there some day!
A very clever technique!
Don’t go trying it at home Sarah!!!
I developed a love for Cape Verde music while living in Macau and was lucky enough to attend a Cesária Évora at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2003. It was pure magic!
What a privilege to have seen and heard her. I didn’t know of her at all until we visited CV last year…
