The Cardboard Cathedral, Christchurch, is a transitional structure – replacing the main Cathedral which was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake. It gets it’s name from the materials used in its construction – 96 heavy duty cardboard tubes, attached to shipping containers which form the base of the walls.

Isn’t it – I’m not sure how long it will actually survive but it’s certainly on the tourist trail in the city…
Very unusual construction and I like the shape of the building and the window with all the triangles and colors 🙂
Such a clever idea and still looks beautiful
We drove by the Cardboard Cathedral when we were in Christchurch last spring. Our little one was sleeping so we didn’t go inside. It’s a neat church and interesting to hear how it was designed and constructed.
