This week’s theme from Debbie for One Word Sunday is POND / PONDER
I wonder when the Atlantic Ocean was first referred to as ‘The Pond’! It sounds a tad archaic nowadays but here are a few glimpses of the POND from Ireland’s west coast…..

That’s quite the “pond”!
Actually a commentator used the phrase ‘across the pond’ on TV last night, referring to the US. So it’s still in use…although definitely sounded dated!
A monumental pond!
It sure is!!!
Hmmm it is quite curious that it’s called “the pond!”
In use since the mid 1800’s as far as I can tell….
I always love your coastal scenes!
Thanks Sarah – stretched the definition of ‘pond’ a tad so I could use a few of them!!!
I’m cool with that 😁
What amazing coastal views
We are SO lucky here… our whole coastline is beautiful – all 7,500kms of it!!!
Worth a ponder but definitely not a pond!
‘A body of water smaller than a lake’ – I don’t think so!! But you must have come across the phrase’ across the pond’ many’s the time…..
What a pond! The coast here is beautiful 🙂
It’s a fabulous coastline Hannah – impossible to pick one art over the rest….
gorgeous coastline.
It really is! Even on a bad day!!
Did I spot a few photos from Erris Head Loop Walk in Belmullet, County Mayo? 🙂
Probably!!!
I was a bit lazy so didn’t go too far back when checking photos!!!!😂
What wonderful views!! Great captures!
Thank you Jyothi!
A clever use of “pond” – definitely still used
I think it is still in use – that’s a good thing – validates my interpretation!!!😅
Beautiful pics, one and all.
Thank you Marc…..
